Origin: Moluccas, New Guinea, New Britain, Solomon Islands

This fast-growing tree has been sprouting everywhere across the island. It is recognized as the world’s fastest growing tree species, capable of gaining a height of 2.5 cm a day on average. It is likely to be the most adaptable naturalised tree in Singapore. As its seeds and seedlings do not tolerate shade, it is unlikely to threaten existing matured forest vegetation. It grows best in area with abundance of sunlight.
